Gudea secures $7M to track online narrative threats
AI startup Gudea has raised $7 million in seed funding to expand its network tracking platform that helps organizations spot and analyze online misinformation before public crises erupt.

Gudea pitched its reputation tracking technology at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 following a $7 million seed funding round co-led by Mudita Venture Partners and Silicon Road Ventures. The investment brings the startup's total funding to approximately $15 million. Founded in 2023 by CEO Keith Presley, Chief Strategy Officer Jonathan Sperber, and CTO James Thomin, the company evolved out of the George Washington Initiative, a nonprofit created after the 2020 election that adapted overseas intelligence tactics to map online networks.
Rather than relying on legacy social listening tools that only tally hashtags and impressions, Gudea uses AI to track how narratives move across more than 500 mainstream and fringe platforms, including X, Reddit, and TikTok. The system analyzes behavioral patterns and relational pathways to give organizations context regarding narrative velocity and trajectory. According to Presley, who previously built infrastructure for Andrew Yang's presidential campaign and has over 15 years of experience in politics and defense, inauthentic online activity has surged. While roughly one out of four analyzed events contained inauthentic behavior when work began in 2021 and 2023, that figure sits at nine out of ten today.
The platform currently serves nearly 40 clients, including a Fortune 50 telecommunications company, a Fortune 50 retailer, one of the world's largest AI labs, one of the world's largest bands, public relations agencies, and government agencies. Looking ahead, Gudea plans to launch narrative geolocation technology next year to identify conversation origins down to the city-block level, alongside tools allowing practitioners to run advertising campaigns through its AI model prior to launch to predict negative outcomes.
Thomin, who holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering and brings roughly two decades of experience in AI and machine learning, helped design the platform to offer proactive defense options. As generative AI lowers the barrier for bad actors to automate coordinated disinformation campaigns, moving beyond reactive metric counts gives communications officers actionable foresight before online rumors turn into brand controversies.
